Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Vista Pavilion
At Oregon Health & Science University, the Vista Pavilion opened on time and $25 million under budget—adding 128 inpatient beds across more than 500,000 square feet to support complex oncology treatment and long-term care. Designed around the emotional realities of cancer care, the 14-story tower combines clinical performance with environments that prioritize comfort, connection and patient well-being.
Through Target Value Design, strategic use of shell space and close collaboration across teams, the project achieved 80% fewer RFIs than typical—reducing risk, minimizing delays and limiting costly change orders. At the same time, the design integrates patient-centered strategies throughout, including positive pressure environments that allow immunocompromised patients to safely move throughout the floor rather than remain isolated, light- and art-filled public spaces, and a restorative central garden. Together, these strategies create a setting that supports both clinical excellence and a more humane, connected care experience.
Features
Close collaboration between OHSU, NBBJ and the broader consultant and construction teams enabled faster decision-making and greater efficiency throughout the project. This integrated approach helped minimize risk, avoid delays and delivered a smoother path from design through construction.
