Amazon Redmond Town Center
Workplaces that evoke the comfort of home, reflect the character of their surroundings, and offer moments of natural tranquility can significantly enhance employee well-being, leading to greater satisfaction and productivity. Inspired by this philosophy, NBBJ’s Environmental Graphic Design studio crafted a visual strategy for Amazon that celebrates the raw beauty and organic imperfection of the natural world.
An artistic journey that brings together the work of 14 diverse local artisans and seven traditional craft mediums, the project features 31 interconnected, dynamic works of art that intuitively guide and orient employees throughout the building. Together, these pieces transform the workplace into a series of welcoming, comfortable environments that collectively embody the spirit and identity of Amazon.
Elevator lobbies feature large-scale works with integrated level identities to orient employees and visitors, from bisque fired vases tonally painted with garden leaf stencils to a series of thirty-five embroidery hoops depicting a lakeside scene, designed by NBBJ and executed by Cloth Tattoo. The project also spotlights additional art mediums that reflect the tranquility of nature, including quilting by Doris Hacketts of Gees Bend Quilters and Shannon Schlosser, and pen and ink illustrations depicting Pacific Northwest scenes that subtly reference Amazon's brand by James Taylor Gray.
